The Accountable Care Organization (ACO) structure was meant to reward efficiency and quality. Instead, it often rewards survival not of the patient but of the institution. The idea of “value-based care” is noble, but when the definition of value is tied to profit, humanity loses its place in the equation.
America’s healthcare crisis is not only a symptom of a broken economy; it’s a reflection of the nation’s moral drift.
We have learned to price compassion, to bill empathy, and to outsource humanity. When saving lives becomes a business model, life itself becomes negotiable.
From the insurance lobby to the pharmaceutical giants, the system reflects a deeper design one that mirrors the nation’s long history of choosing wealth over welfare. The same patterns of exploitation that shaped housing, labor, and education now quietly dictate who receives care and who is denied it. Until compassion outweighs currency, no system can truly heal.
