“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14).

We as flesh often look for love in the flesh and things turn sour. We chase the comfort of touch, the thrill of attention, and the illusion of forever in temporary hands. We mistake desire for destiny and call it love. Some of us get lost in the sweetness of words that never had roots, while others waste years trying to change someone who was never meant to stay. Fleshly love flatters but fails. It promises warmth and leaves coldness. It draws near but hides its motives. Even in the Church, many seek love without first seeking God, and what begins as a spark soon becomes a wildfire that burns everything around it.

When we ignore the divine order of love, outcomes vary, but pain is consistent. Some remain alone out of mistrust. Some are murdered out of jealousy. Others wander from one broken promise to the next, wearing smiles that hide the ache of wasted years. Commitment to the flesh has grown heavier than commitment to God, and the evidence surrounds us.

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” (1 John 2:1). According to the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics (2023), there were approximately 678,000 divorces across 45 reporting states a crude divorce rate of about 2.4 per 1,000 people.

The National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey reports that nearly half of U.S. women (47.3%) have experienced some form of intimate partner violence in their lifetime, and about one in four men (44.2%) report similar experiences. The FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting shows that jealousy remains one of the leading motives behind intimate partner homicides. Meanwhile, nearly one in four U.S. children roughly 18 million live without their biological father present in the home (U.S. Census Bureau, 2023).

These numbers tell a painful truth: when love is pursued by flesh alone, homes break, hearts harden, and generations inherit the cost. But God’s Word offers a higher way not to shame us for the past, but to redeem what the flesh has destroyed.

Reflection

Every heart has a story one filled with longing, mistakes, and moments of awakening. Maybe you’ve given your all to someone who could never carry it. Maybe you’ve hurt others while trying to fill your own emptiness. The truth is, God’s plan for love has never changed. He calls us not to chase temporary affection, but to build eternal connection through Him. Fleshly love fades. Divine love restores.

Ask yourself: Have I mistaken attraction for purpose Have I allowed the lust of the flesh to define what I call love? What would change if I allowed God to heal the parts of me that crave people more than His presence?

Prayer

Lord, Please reveal the places where my heart still seeks love in the wrong places. Heal the wounds that make me chase validation rather than truth. Teach me to love in a way that honors You to discern what is real, reject what is false, and embrace the kind of love that builds, not breaks. May every connection in my life reflect Your Spirit, not my flesh. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Be Blessed 🙌.
