Exodus 1:1–22 tells how Pharaoh feared the Israelites because they were multiplying and growing strong. Out of fear, he enslaved them, oppressed them, and even tried to destroy their sons.

Does this sound familiar?

The story of Pharaoh and Israel mirrors America’s treatment of darker-skinned people. The systematic enslavement of Black men echoes Pharaoh’s fear-driven decrees. Today, we see it in incarceration, racial profiling, and family-breaking policies.

African American, aka ‘black’ women, face corruption in healthcare, which also reflects Pharaoh’s attempt to destroy life at its root. Maternal death rates remain alarmingly high for Black women, pain is ignored, and systems neglect their needs. Yet, just as in Exodus, “the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied” (Exodus 1:12).

Pharaoh feared the rise of God’s people, and America’s systems often reflect the same fear of Black advancement. But what Pharaoh missed and what America forgets is that no system can cancel God’s promises.

The real solution is not found in politics or power struggles but in repentance. As a nation and as individuals, we must turn back to God. Only then can healing begin. God warns, but He also promises restoration when His people humble themselves and pray (2 Chronicles 7:14).

God is raising up His people despite every attempt to silence them. The question is: Will we repent before judgment comes?
