We live in a world overflowing with spiritual influences; some from God, others from deception. Many people seek answers in the stars, psychics, or self-proclaimed guides, but God calls us to something deeper: true discernment rooted in His Spirit.

When you look into someone’s eyes and sense their pain or discern hidden truths, how can you know what’s of God and what’s not?

What Is of God: Truth, Ĺight, and Alignment

“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth…” (John 16:13)

God’s Spirit leads to truth, never confusion or manipulation.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights…” (James 1:17)

True discernment is a gift that is meant to bring healing and freedom, not fear.

1 Corinthians 2:10-12  “…the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God… that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.”

God allows us to see beyond the surface for His purposes, not for exploitation.

What Is Not of God: Deception, Self-Reliance, and Darkness

Deuteronomy 18:10-12

“There shall not be found among you… an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch… For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD…”

Astrology, fortune-telling, and occult practices seek power apart from God.

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness…” (Isaiah 5:20)

False light mimics truth, but its fruit is confusion, pride, or dependency on man.

“And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” (2 Corinthians 11:14)

Not everything that feels right or seems helpful is of God; Satan counterfeits what is holy.

How to Discern the Difference

• Test by the Word of God (Acts 17:11) – If what you sense or hear can not align with Scripture, reject it.
• Test the Source (1 John 4:1) – Ask: Does this spirit glorify Jesus Christ as Lord?
• Test the Fruit (Matthew 7:16) – Does it produce love, peace, and humility or fear, pride, and confusion?

Reflection

1. When I sense something about another person, do I seek God first in prayer?
2. Have I allowed worldly systems (zodiac, superstition, others’ opinions) to guide me more than Scripture?
3. How can I use my discernment to build others up rather than judge or control them?

Final Encouragement

The ability to perceive our discernment about another person is a holy responsibility. When led by God, it brings light into dark places, healing into broken hearts, and glory to His name.

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God.” (1 John 4:1)
