“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” (Proverbs 4:7)

Why Learning Matters

Education is not just about classrooms, tests, or degrees. It is the foundation of how children see themselves, how they value others, and how they prepare for the future. Without a strong foundation of learning; rooted in both knowledge and wisdom; society collapses.

Learning is about more than facts. It is about:

• Understanding truth from error
• Building character and accountability
• Equipping the next generation to lead with faith and purpose

When children are not learning, the future of families, communities, and even the nation itself is at risk.

The current crisis in education in the United States of America should cause concern for all. The numbers don’t lie:

• Only 33% of 4th graders and 31% of 8th graders in the U.S. are proficient in reading (NAEP, 2022).
• The U.S. ranks 14th globally in reading and 25th in math (OECD, 2023).
• Teacher shortages now affect 48 states, forcing schools to increase class sizes or rely on underqualified substitutes.
• Chronic absenteeism doubled after the pandemic, with over 14 million students missing at least 10% of the school year (DOE, 2023).

These stats reveal a nation struggling not just with academics, but with accountability, respect, and consistency in learning.

The Shifts un Schooling

Education in America is no longer one-size-fits-all. Parents are exploring alternatives:

• Public Schools – Still serve the majority, but face declining enrollment and rising dissatisfaction.
• Private Schools – Enrollment has grown steadily; families seek values-driven or specialized learning environments.
• Homeschooling – Exploded after COVID-19; in 2021, over 11% of U.S. households reported homeschooling (U.S. Census Bureau).

Families are voting with their feet moving toward education that better reflects their faith, safety concerns, and values.

Why This Series Is Needed

We cannot rely solely on institutions, government, or policies to shape our children. Accountability must return to parents and communities in support of our teachers.

• Expose the progression and regression of America’s schools.
• Compare faith-based principles with secular approaches.
• Highlight alternatives like homeschooling and skill-based education.
• Call parents back to their biblical role as the first teachers.

Reflection

The future of America’s children depends on what they learn today. And learning begins not in Washington or even the classroom it begins at home, reinforced in faith, and carried forward in partnership with teachers and communities.

Do you know what your children are learning; not just in school, but in life?

Be Blessed 🙌.
