There’s a powerful truth hidden in creation itself: Light can not be seen without darkness, and neither can darkness be seen without light. Both reveal each other’s existence just as the flesh and the spirit reveal the battle within us.

When God said, “Let there be light,” He wasn’t just separating day from night. He was declaring a spiritual truth that His presence would always expose, define, and divide what was once hidden in darkness. Light makes things visible; it uncovers, and it brings awareness. Darkness conceals, tempts, and blinds. And yet, without darkness, light would have nothing to reveal.

The Flesh: The Shadowed Nature

The flesh is the realm of darkness not because our bodies are evil but because the desires of the flesh are driven by self. It thrives on impulse, pride, and temporary satisfaction. It seeks comfort, control, and validation.

More often than not, darkness finds its way to the surface repeatedly. When one witnesses unchanged attitudes and accountability from loved ones, anger, disappointments, and vengeful thoughts attempt to break through. The challenge is quite difficult when sacrifices have been made, and still, no efforts to make things right are attempted.

We question whether or not our leniency supports the same ill behaviors that one may afflict on others. When behaviors fail to change for the betterment of man, what role do we play to make it right in accordance with God? Do we sit still and remain silent, or do we expose the dark behavior?

The Apostle Paul wrote in Galatians 5:17, “For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other…”

When repeated darkness about similar transgressions reappear, one must ask oneself; Did I not do as God instructed?

This inner conflict is not a punishment it’s a revelation. It shows us that within every believer exists both shadow and light. The flesh is where darkness hides where envy, lust, anger, fear, and unbelief take root. The Spirit, however, shines truth into that same space, offering clarity and conviction.

The Spirit: The Light Within

The Spirit does not erase darkness it exposes it. God’s light doesn’t need to prove its strength; it simply needs to be present. Darkness cannot resist it.

Every time you feel conviction, it’s light confronting darkness. Every moment you resist temptation, it’s light overpowering shadow. Every time you forgive, surrender, or love when you don’t feel like it that’s the Spirit revealing what the flesh cannot comprehend. Just as dawn proves the night cannot last forever, your spiritual growth proves that darkness has no eternal claim on you.

When Light and Darkness Coexist

You cannot truly understand light without first experiencing darkness. If you’ve ever walked through depression, anger, shame, or loss, you’ve seen this truth firsthand. The moment you encountered peace that made no sense that was the Spirit reminding you who you are.

Flesh tells you, “You’ll never be enough.” Spirit whispers, “My grace is sufficient.” Flesh says, “You failed again.” Spirit answers, “I’m not finished with you yet.” Flesh sees sin. Spirit sees redemption. God doesn’t waste your shadows; He uses them as a backdrop for His glory.

Reflection

Ask yourself, “What parts of me still hide in darkness in denial, fear, or pride?”

You are not meant to escape darkness; you are meant to overcome it through the light that lives within you. When light meets darkness, the battle ends the same way every time darkness loses. So let your struggle remind you: God’s light isn’t just around you. It’s in you. And it shines brightest when the world and your flesh forgets what light looks like.

What truths is the Spirit trying to reveal that my flesh keeps resisting?

Can I thank God for the darkness that showed me how bright His light truly is?

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”(John 1:5)

Be Blessed 🙌.
